Twitter Gives Birth to “TrainFriday”

Twitter Gives Birth to “TrainFriday”

Posted on 08. Feb, 2009 by admin in Featured Users, TwitterStuff

If social networking had a syringe that could be jammed straight into your veins, giving you a constant dose of messaging, information, and details about what @crazyjane was doing at any given hour of the day, that syringe would be TWITTER.

It satisfies people’s urge and addiction to communicate through the web, but aside from being the internet drug of choice, it also works to bring actual human beings together, in the physical realm.  No, really, it does. One good example of that is a new endeavor by Twitter regulars @rick_smith, @benjordan, and others called “TrainFriday“.

Certain Fridays in 2009 will be deemed a “Train Friday“. On these special days, all Twitter friends are invited to meet up to ride the TRE train from Dallas to Sundance Square in Cowtown Texas (Fort Worth).  Upon arrival in Fort Worth, all forms of tom-foolery will begin including:

  • Video Documentaries
  • Man on the Street Videos
  • Studying
  • Book Buying
  • Dining at the finest restaurants Fort Worth has to offer
  • Photography
  • Fellowship
  • Good Times

At the end of the day, everyone returns with epic stories of their journey and bask in the majic that happens in that 8 hour day.

Here’s what I like about this endeavor already:

1.  It’s taking Twitter outside of the computer and bringing people together.  Something we should do regularly instead of hiding out in our homes and offices.  It’s refreshing to talk to other humans once in a while. :)

2.  They’ve taken this event and branded it nicely.  From a design and branding perspective, they’ve done a great job at giving Train Friday some “teeth”, and with the website being so clean, simple, and well designed, you can’t help but want to find out what this event is all about

3.  This isn’t a one time event.  It appears as though this will be a regular occurence, keeping twitter-maniacs tightly connected and most likely creating new friendships for all involved.  This could become a new movement, one that the train station isn’t prepared for.  hehe.

So, if you live in Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, or any of the surrounding areas, check this out and join these guys for a Train Friday.  More information can be found at www.trainfriday.com. Enjoy.

    Yo Hec,

The plan is not just for Fort Worth. We are looking to go to OKC in March for our next endeavor. Talk to Ben about the official word. Thanks for Twitterstop.com and thanks for covering #TrainFriday & Trainfriday.com

Everyone that went had a blast. We gave away 80 $5 gift cards to the families with kids in the Hospital at Children’s Medical. If you do a follow up be sure and mention the service aspect as well. TrainFriday was lots of fun and will continue to be but we also want it to continue to have a greater purpose as an avenue for folks to be apart of something bigger then themselves and continue to find ways to give, help, and support those that find themselves in need.

It was fantastic being part of Train Friday, the inaugural class, if you will. Great friends were made and many of them started on Twitter. We will be taking the concept and reproducing a similar thing here in Oklahoma City on Good Friday. Website isn’t up, but the URL is http://www.DoGoodFriday.com. Literally, doing good on good friday.

Hope others tap their online social network to get offline and actually accomplish much GOOD!

Train Friday is a perfect example of taking Twitter to the real world. I’m glad I was able to participate not only on a fellowship level, but document it too.

Train Friday video coming soon to trainfriday.com
