Describing Twitter in 140 Seconds or Less.

Posted on 23. Feb, 2009 by admin in Tips, TwitterNews

It was over a year ago that I had my first encounter with Twitter.  I remember visiting a very simple, unexplainable homepage, that only had a login & signup option, leaving me even more curious as to what the heck a “twitter” was.  Because it was so simple to sign up, I ran through the steps and bam!, I had a twitter account.

Well, that freakin account didn’t get used after that, and it wasn’t until several months later that I revisited the idea of sharing my day with the whole world in 140 characters or less.  Since then, it’s become a daily part of my life and something that I look forward to doing every morning.

Why is it so interesting to see what thousands of people are doing at even given second in the day?  How can so many people have so much extra time in their day to give us minute to minute updates on their life?  Crazy, isn’t it?  Well, try explaining how all of this works to someone who has never heard of Twitter, who only sees it as an unending “chat” session.  You have to admit, that at face value, Twitter does appear to be chatting.  However, as my current desktop background clearly states, “Twitter is Not Chat”.

So how do you explain what twitter is to  your friends and family, and do so in 140 seconds or less?  Well, we’ve provided 5 easy descriptions below:

1.  Twitter is Not Chat

2.  Are you familiar with Facebook or Myspace?  Well, Twitter is both of those on Crack!

3.  Twitter allows you to communicate and connect with thousands of other people by the millisecond.

4.  Want to let other strangers know what you’re eating, what tv show you’re watching, who you’re speaking to at any given moment, what you’re wearing, what photshop tutorial is hot right now, or that you just launched a new website?  Twitter is the place to do that and more

5.  Every hear a bird chirping outside continously, knowing that he/she was communicating with other birds and that they were all happy and living a beautiful life?  Well, that’s Twitter.

Hope these help you in explaining Twitter to your friends, family, girlfriend, boyfriend, or boss (once he catches you twittering on the clock).  Pass these along and let us know if they end up being helpful.

The first two paragraph sums up my experience with Twitter to the tee, or “tweet” (I know, lame!).

Yeah, I think that describes most Twitter users. Thanks for the comment.
