Twitter Pimpin and the art of DicTweeting

A man stands in an upscale urban loft in the South Park neighborhood of LA speaking random thoughts as a staff member dictates. Perhaps he’s a developer working on his next multimillion-dollar contract? Or maybe he is a scholar writing his doctorate dissertation? Nope. He’s tweeting. This guy isn’t your average social-networker; he’s a twitter pimp. Elevated to the status of dic-tweeting, to keep his 70,000+ twitter followers feed with 140 characters of relevant info. Keeping his hand free for more important tasks, like counting all the scrilla he makes from his Internet Empire.

Dic-tweeting is reserved for the Guy Kawasaki’s of the world. Those who maintain a sub-culture like influence over geeks and techies alike. They carry iconic status and Internet fame to be envied. Spending afternoons and late nights pacing up and down spitting out clever URL’s and fluent hypertext markup language, while their secretaries follow them around typing away on iPhones.

And then there are the rest of us. No one to dic-tweet for us, and no small army of researchers mining the web for digital gems and tweeting under our avatars. Saying things like “I just left a meeting and now time for a quick bite”. Why does anyone care? What value can you possibly add to my day by telling me that you “just took a nap and now watching AI”?

I don’t think we’ve figured that out yet. But one thing we have figured out is that it’s just fun. It’s fun to stay connected to friends, family and even total strangers through this crazy phenomenon called Twitter. So whether you a twitter pimp, or have just a couple of hundred followers like me, keep tweeting. Let’s see how far we can ride this wave and where we end up next. Follow me on Twitter.
