Vlingo - Voice activated Twittering at 90 mph!

Because Twitter is an application that begs to be updated by the minute, I thought it would be wise to find an app that would allow me to update my Twitter status by simply speaking into my phone. What I found was a great little App called Vlingo. This app is great in two ways: 1) It’s freakin free! 2) It actually works great.

Vlingo, according to the Vlingo website, is a voice-powered user interface that unlocks access to mobile phone wireless data services. vlingo for iPhone™ and vlingo for BlackBerry smartphones allows users to speak into their device and have many popular applications carry out their respective functions. This includes dialing your phone, sending an email or SMS, creating and saving a memo or task, opening a web browser and performing a web search, composing a social-networking status message and more.

Well, they weren’t lying about what it can do, because I’ve tested it and it’s doing the following: 1) Accurately translates voice into words (except it doesn’t translate the word “twittering” very well.  Kept getting “raining” or “preparing”.  Funny.   2) Shows you what you’ve recorded 3. With one button you can update your Twitter or Facebook status.  Many times as I’m driving or out of the office, I want to update my status, but wait until it’s safe to do so. Now I can twit at 80 - 90 miles an hour with no problem. And eat a burger, fries, and large drink.

You need to get Vlingo if you haven’t already. They’ve been around since 2007, but with the rise of Facebook and Twitter, they added social networking updating via voice activation. Let us know how you like it. www.vlingo.com
