What’s been going on at SXSW?

- We’ve been keeping up with the massive amount of tweets circulating about SXSW in Austin, and every day we’ll be posting recaps of the previous day using people’s updates. There are a few tweeters that we’ve been following that have been providing some great udpates and photos, one being @160over90 and some really funny and personality driven updates from @baratunde. Following all of the tweets and updates makes us feel like we were actually at SXSW this weekend, but of course nothing can compare to actually being there. Here’s what we’ve gathered from the event so far:
- Pepsico unveiled an awesome Twitter based feed that uses cool graphs, animated updates: http://pepsicozeitgeist.com/
- Lots of talk about Tony Hsieh, the CEO of Zappos. His name has been dropped a lot. Zappos offers employees $2,000 to quit. Test of dedication to company culture.
- New abbreviation to remember is CBO: Chief Blogging Officer. Sounds like a new job position has been created out there.
- Lessig brought politics to the discussion. Interesting site that brings money and politics together came through his talk: www.maplight.org
- Al Gore’s name has been dropped a lot. Not sure why though. Could it be because he “invented the internet”? hahahaha!
- Via @160over90: Bite size info and sharing kind of replaced the FWD: emails you’d send in mass to your friends. (my response: true, very very true)
- Facebook seems to be getting ragged on for becoming a place for over 30 & 40 somethings to connect with old high school friends. One person described Facebook as the kid with rich parents that everyone likes to pick on, because they’re envious of his silver spoon. And no one seems to like the new layout of facebook for many reasons.
- Lots of partying going on in Austin right now.
- Lots of BBQ being eaten in Austin.
- Guy Kawasaki is at the event. @guykawasaki
- @baratunde came close to killing a puppy at the nytimes talk today. The talk improved so the puppy servived. What kind of puppy was it? We have no idea.
- Rumor that “copying and pasting” coming to the iPhone in the next update (not sure what that means though).
- Crazy dragon bike thing was present at the Frog Design Opening party tonight (still going down):
- Someone lost their iPod at the airport and because of Twitter, it was reunited with its owner. See, Twitter actually helps people.
- Swindlr has a new blog up. Nice and clean with video posts about SXSW: http://www.swindlr.com/blog/
- If you’re badgeless and want a tight closing party to attend on Tuesday, reserve for the MediaTemple party. Follow these guys on virb: http://virb.com/mtsxsw or hit them up on twitter: @mediatemple
