The SXSW lowdown - #2

Posted on 16. Mar, 2009 by admin in Events, TwitterNews

Well, we’re still not in Austin, but it’s all good. We’ve enjoyed following the updates of many great followers and followees on Twitter. We still hope to make it to the Media Temple closing party on Tuesday night and if you have no badge and want to make it to this party, follow Media Temple on Virb: http://virb.com/mtsxsw

So, what’s been going on at SXSW since the weekend? Well, here are some bite size pieces of news and updates, compliments of some of the Twitter people we follow:

- Of course, lots and lots of parties and events going down throughout the day and in the evenings. The big parties Sunday night seemed to be the Facebook and Google parties.

-  The Adobe Web awards went down this weekend and the winners are posted on the SXSW site:  http://sxsw.com/interactive/web_awards/winners @baratunde was the mc for the night, who we here did an awesome job and kept the jokes coming.  In fact, you’ll crack up at this new video posted up by @barantunde in response to @chrisbrogan.  Funniest quote from the video:  ” . . .I bite people!”  haha.  Cracked me up!

-  Lots of chatter about SMS business cards and a new site at http://www.contxts.com.   Another great SMS site for custom, graphical SMS cards is at http://www.wearecyan.com

-  The guys over at Swindlr.com just posted a new video of their Austin adventures.  You can view the video on Twitterstop (in the right sidebar) or visit www.swindlr.com.  Also, follow these guys on Twitter:  @swindlr

-  “The Color of Wealth” book was a recommended book at the racism panel.  Not really sure what that panel was completely about though.

-  Behance threw down a party this weekend.  If you don’t know who they are, you need to visit www.behance.com.  Join the network.

-  One crazy new site that revolutionizes the way you can get your news is www.doodlebuzz.com.  A bit confusing, but fun.

@globalresident informed us that the average age of Twitterers is 31 years.  Give it a little while though and it’ll be over 50 like Facebook.  :)

@mofro provided a link to notes from the “iphone development for experienced web developers” session:  http://window.punkave.com

-  One more newspaper is about to bite the dust and go web only:   http://bit.ly/Qlte5

If you have any news or updates that you’d like to provide for tomorrow’s post, please send it our way.  We also love video posts, so send lots of those.  Thanks to everyone for the updates and interesting coverage.  Enjoying it. Twitt to the S - T - O - P!
