To Sync or Not to Sync - Twitter Syncing with Facebook

To Sync or Not to Sync - Twitter Syncing with Facebook

Posted on 30. Mar, 2009 by admin in Apps, Tips, TwitterNews

As social media progresses and new tools are developed, many applications are being developed that work to integrate one social media tool into another.  One popular example is the ability to sync your Twitter feed into Facebook.  With the installation of an easy Twitter syncing app into Facebook and a few setting changes, all of your Twitter updates will automatically update your Facebook status.  AJ Vaynerchuck offers some easy steps on his site regarding the Twitter App install into Facebook.  Check it out HERE.

Apps like these help save time and knock out two birds with one stone.  They work great going both ways, meaning that you can set up the tool to also “tweet” you Facebook updates, not just the other way around.  Users have noted some issues with the syncing tools such as 1 minute update delays and duplicate updates, but these are minor compared to the benefits.

But there are a few questions to ask when deciding whether to take advantage of a syncing app:

1.  If you Tweet frequently, do you want EVERY SINGLE TWEET to show up in your Facebook page?

2.  If you Tweet a lot of updates that are less personal and more about “checking out a new site or recommending a new online tool”, will your Facebook Audience appreciate these updates?

3.  Will your Tweets “make sense” to those who keep up with your Facebook status?

The people that you are friends with on Facebook are probably a different group that the people that you follow or follow you on Twitter.  Your Facebook friends may not be the “audience” that should be receiving “the top 10 Wordpress sites on the web” or “15 new photoshop techniques”.  I used the Twitter syncing tool for a few days and after realizing that my Facebook page was being bombarded by my updates and “freaking out” my “friends” on Facebook, I chose to remove the syncing.  My Facebook friends can now live peacefully.

We’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences with Twitter syncing.  Does it work for you?  Do you recommend it?   What are the benefits?  Thanks for stopping by today.

I used this FB app up until a week or so ago. There’s a new FB app that lets you be more selective with which tweets by using #fb.

Try it! You will like it and your FB friends will appreciate you. :)

Yep it is nice. So my Facebook page gets more updates than usual now that I can do both at once with #fb hashtag. FB should be grateful, my Myspace does not have the same hashtag feature so I hardly see my MS page and they have no plugin that I like to interface with Twitter there. I maybe visit my MS twice a week.

Not to mention confusing your facebook friends with tinyurls and @replies. That is primarily why I haven’t synced myself.

I too use and recommend selective twitter to sync Twitter and Facebook.
