The Power of UStream

The Power of UStream

This past weekend, The Byke Project, which is one of our partners working in the BMX industry, made its way to Joplin, Missouri for the much anticipated JomoPro BMX Freestyle event.  This event is going on its 4th year and this year they added “Flatland” to the event, which is the founding discipline of BMX and has been an element of the sport that has been operating on “its own” since its removal from the XGames.

The event was to say the least “Epic” and for the first time in this sport, live streaming was offered via The Byke Project’s Ustream.  With a Mac Book Pro, a Panasonic DVX100B, and a good wireless connection, the flatland pro prelims and finals were broadcasted live to the entire world.  Accompanying the live contest was a “pre-show”, hosted by Hector Garcia with the Byke Project and Team Pralex, made up of two Canadian expert flatlanders named Prasheel and Alex Aproirier.

UStream proved to be a powerful tool this past weekend and at one point during the broadcast, there were about 70 viewers watching from the U.S., London, Germany, Phillipines, Japan, Australia, Mexico, and many other nations.  Though live streaming has been around for a while, this was the first time anyone ever offered this type of Broadcasting for a Flatland BMX event.  The feedback and responses to such broadcasting has been nothing but positive and overwhelming, leaving athletes and sports enthusiasts around the world wanting more.  The Byke Project is working to find tune this service with the help of Dunamis Media and other industry companies.  UStream is a powerful tool and we’ll be taking advantage of it as much as possible.

Below is The Byke Project Pre-Show for your viewing pleasure.  Enjoy.
