iPhone Apps make matching paint colors a Snap!

iphonesnapI do a lot of construction and home repair projects, either for myself or for my mom.  I’m always building something, repairing, doing a remodel project, or painting some walls.  I love it and it’s something I grew up with all my life.

One thing that has always proven to be a hassle is getting a color matched for some paint.  With the current technology, you have to have a pretty good sample to take to Home Depot or Lowes that can be scanned and matched well.  If all you had was a paint chip from a piece of wood, that chip sometimes wouldn’t scan well because of any imperfections or waves on the chip.  I’ve had to peel away the face of painted sheetrock at times just to have a good paint chip sample.

Well, if you own an iPhone, your life as a paint color matcher just got easier.  There are at least two apps that we know of that offer great solutions for paint color matching.  One is ColorSnap, by Sherwin Williams.  This app has been around for a little while, but of course Benjamin Moore couldn’t let that be the only app so they introduced Color Capture recently.  They both work great and both do the job.

You can download both of these apps for free from the iPhone App Store. Use your iPhone camera to take any picture, and the app shows you the closest matching colors in their catalog.

The Ben Moore app has a great feature that with the shake of the iphone when your color match appears, the app will show you coordinating colors for your new instant palette. Confirm your selection, and the iPhone’s GPS system will direct you to the nearest retailer selling the Benjamin Moore paint. Sherwin Williams also has a free iPhone app called ColorSnap, and theirs includes an RGB color converter (for you graphic and interior designers).  The Sherwin Williams app has up to 2000 color choices while the Ben Moore has up to 3500.  Never the less, your life has just been made easier.

Visit the iPhone app store and download these sweet apps today.  I’m there’s something to paint this weekend that the app will come in handy for.
